Archimedes

Archimedes

Archimedes, the wisest man in the world, was born in Syracuse, Sicily.  As the story goes, Archimedes repeatedly saved his city from the Roman army with strange inventions.  He set the Roman ships on fire with flint glass.  Using innovative tactics, he could empty the ships of the Romans and give them a perfect escape.  Archimedes studied at the Ptolemaic school in Alexandria.  Based on the work of Euclid, Archimedes was able to solve many problems in geometry.  He invented the method of determining the distance of different planets from the Earth.  A fundamental law of physics he discovered is called Archimedes' law.  He invented the screw for drawing water, the slingshot for killing birds, crane etc.  Archimedes died at the hands of Roman soldiers.  The fact is, the fame of Archimedes was spread from country to country.  General Marcellus ordered his soldiers not to harm Archimedes.  But the soldiers, maddened by the pride of victory, did not appreciate Archimedes.

As the story goes, when the soldiers came upon Archimedes he was anxiously carving geometry in the sand.  A soldier hoarsely told him to surrender.  But he was engrossed in solving the problem of geometry and the order of Marmukho soldier did not reach his ears.  "Don't disturb me at this time," he said absentmindedly.

The soldier did not recognize Archimedes.  However, the men's competition is not less!  Archimedes was killed by him.  It is about 212 BC.

When the Roman general Marcellus heard that Archimedes had been killed, he was very sorry.  He built a tomb for him.  And painted on it is Archimedes' favorite geometry.
