What is the Definition of a Computer?
What is the full form of a Computer?
The word “computer” is simply a word derived from the English word “compute”, meaning to calculate, and is not an abbreviation. There is no real full version for computers. You will find many articles on the internet explaining the complete form of the computer. But this is just a myth. However, if you want to know the most popular so-called complete form of computer, then I am presenting it in this article just for your information.
Inventor and father of
Computer
After many debates about
who should be credited with the invention of the computer, an English
mechanical engineer named Charles Babbage is called the Father of the Computer,
because the modern computer has a lot in common with the Analytical Engine he
invented.
Development
of Computers
In
ancient times when computers were not invented, people usually counted with
their fingers, sticks, stones, etc. Then when the human brain gradually started
to develop, people started to invent different types of devices. Abacus is
believed to be the first human-made computer. We have no information about when
exactly the Abacus was invented. Then with the passage of time, more and more
types of calculating machines were invented. Some of the notable devices are
Napier's Bones, Slide Rules, Pascal's Adding and Subtraction Machine, Punch
Card System, Babbage's Analytical Engine, etc.
Generations
of Computers
First Generation [1940 – 1956]: Vacuum Tube
Second Generation [1956 – 1963]: Transistors
Third Generation [1964 – 1971]: Integrated Circuit
Fourth Generation [1971–Present]: Microprocessor
Fifth Generation [Present – Next]:
Artificial Intelligence
Working Process of Computers
A computer generally works through 4
processes: receiving input or instructions from the user, processing the data
based on that input, storing the processed data in a storage device, and
displaying it as an output to a specific output device. Input: Any information
or instruction sent to a computer by a user is called input. Information is
transmitted to the computer through various types of input devices such as a keyboard,
mouse, etc.
Processing (Processing): All the information that the user sends to the computer, is converted into usable information by changing or processing in a special way by the CPU at this stage.
Storage: At this stage, the computer stores
the converted data in the storage device for future use.
Output: The data converted after processing is called output. The computer processes the input data and sends it to output devices such as monitors, printers, speakers, etc., which the user can see or hear.
Main Parts of Computer
Everything that we can touch in a computer
usually belongs to hardware. Just like the human body, a computer is made up of
different parts. And software is needed to manage all these parts and
coordinate them all.
Now we will know about the different parts of the computer.
